Who we are

KATT power Ghana is majority owned by Melec PowerGen Gen Inc (MPG), an international company incorporated in BVI and part of Matelec Group. MPG is dedicated to develop BOO and BOT power generation projects across the Middle East and Africa. Our industry experience includes the following projects:

Thika Power:

In August 2013, MPG completed the construction of an 87MW HFO power plant (running on HFO 180) with combined cycle in Kenya (Thika) under a 20 year BOO contract with the local utility Kenya Power. The project was completely developed, financed, and realized by Melec PowerGenGen (25% equity, 75% long term loans, arranged by IFC, with the participation of AfDB and ABSA Capital). The project was realized in partnership with MAN Diesel Germany who supplied the gensets and contributed to the EPC and O&M.

Tobene Power:

At this moment MPG is about to complete the construction of a 105MW Tobene HFO power plant with combined cycle (with an option to convert the facility to a gas fired plant) in Senegal. The plant is currently being commissioned with a full taking over date of June 2016.The project was completely developed, financed, and realized by Melec PowerGenGen (25% equity, 75% long term loans, arranged by IFC, with the participation of BOAD, EAIF and FMO). The project was realized in partnership with MAN Diesel Germany who supplied the gensets and contributed to the EPC and O&M.

Kounoune Power:

In January 2008, MPG completed the construction of Kounoune Power Plant (through Kounoune Power, its SPV in Senegal), a 67.5MW diesel power plant (running on HFO 380), located in Senegal, under a 15-years BOO contract with the local utility Senelec. The project was completely developed, financed, and realized by Melec PowerGenGen (30% equity, 70% long term loans, arranged by IFC, with the participation of ADB, BOAD, Proparco, and CBAO). The project was realized in partnership with Mitsubishi, through MHI Equipment Europe, who supplied the gensets and contributed to the EPC and O&M.
